Frequently Asked Questions

question mark 2… and Answers

Bib (and Registration) Transfers

We did allow registration transfers, from one runner to another, up through February 15th for a $10 processing fee.

Update: If you only want to switch races, you may do so through February 28th for a $10 transfer fee. After February 28th, the fee is $15 due to the extra work required on our end.

Notes about switching races:

  • Your Personalized Racing Bib will have the incorrect Corral printed on your bib, if you switch races
  • Please be sure to “chip check” your racing bib’s timing chip at our Race Expo with our timing company, 3Way Racing
  • Our Rookie’s 7-Miler is capped at 400 runners, so first come, first served
  • If you are switching from our 7-Miler to our Half-Marathon, you will also need to pay the registration difference

Refunds

We are unable to provide refunds because we order your Nike Legend Dri-Fit racing shirt, Finisher Medal and racing bib well in advance of Race Weekend. In lieu of this, however, you may transfer your registration to another runner for only a $10 fee, up through February 15th.

Will there be live music on the course?

Yes! Local, live bands and musicians will be entertaining you along your journey at several locations!

What is the weather usually like in Lexington, in late March / early April?

On average, early spring creates perfect running weather here in Kentucky! It is typically around 45 or 50 degrees at race time, here in the Bluegrass, with lows around 40 the night before and perhaps reaching up to 60 degrees later on in the afternoon after you’re home, showered and enjoying your runner’s high!

Is the course hilly or flat? Challenging, easy, or…?

A test… Kentucky’s hills with some flat spots… exquisitely beautiful… challenging… and inspirational.  The best way it’s been described: “RunTheBluegrass is a technical course.” To hear what other runners (of various levels) say about our course, visit their own dedicated page.

Is there a printable version of our Course Map available?

Yes! Click here! In PDF format for your convenience. Includes 8 pages of zoomed-in sections of each turn and mile marker.

Is there a time limit for runners/walkers?

We do not enforce a strict time limit but we do tell Lexington’s police (they close our roads), plus our timing company and our many volunteers that we will be finished in approximately four hours (which is an 18:00/mile slow walk pace).

Are headphones allowed?

Yes! Yes, you may certainly wear headphones during our race. We totally support runners doing whatever helps you run your best race.

Yes! Like all good races, we’re going to have emergency personnel stationed along our course – and just like at any other time you run, please be aware that a vehicle MIGHT need to pass through at some point.

Yes! Also, our course (obviously) races right through the heart of horse country, and we race in the middle of their breeding season. While Lexington’s Police are closing all of our roads to through traffic, there’s still a slight chance a horse-related emergency vehicle might need to pass through on Race Morning. Lexington’s Police and our volunteers are very well prepared for any such scenario.

Keeneland Race Course has been hosting tens of thousands of visitors a day, during Thoroughbred Racing Season, since 1936. There is ample parking, including shuttle buses to our Starting Line if necessary.
