Job Descriptions

Volunteer Meeting Dinner Assistance

Tuesday, March 28th, 4-8pm

Assist in set up and management of Volunteer informational dinner. Includes some lifting and physical activity; must be able to stand for 4+ hours.


Race Expo and Keeneland Setup

Wednesday, March 29, 4-8pm

Thursday, March 30, 9am-Noon or Noon-4pm

Assist in setting up our Race Expo and surrounding areas at Keeneland. Some lifting required. Able to walk and stand for a 4+ hour shift.


Registration / Packet Pickup

Thursday, March 30, 3:45-8pm

Friday, March 31, 10:30am-2:30pm, 2-6pm or 5:30-8:30pm

Assist guests in obtaining their Official Racing Bib with timing chip attached. No lifting required. Able to walk and stand for a 4 hour shift.


Race Shirt Pick Up

Thursday, March 30, 3:45-8pm

Friday, March 31, 10:30am-2:30pm, 2-6pm or 5:30-8:30pm

Distribute RunTheBluegrass 2017’s Vintage Lightweight Hoodie! Some lifting required. Able to walk and stand for a 4 hour shift.


Customer Service

Thursday, March 30, 3:45-8pm

Friday, March 31, 10:30am-2:30pm, 2-6pm or 5:30-8:30pm

Direct guests in and around our Race Expo and/or Race Day experience, answer simple questions, and most of all, show Kentucky hospitality! No Lifting required. Able to walk and stand for a 4 hour shift.


Floaters/Miscellaneous

Thursday, March 30, 3:45-8pm

Friday, March 31, 10:30am-2:30pm, 2-6pm or 5:30-8:30pm

Assist in customer service and fill in where needed in other areas that may be understaffed. The specific duties for these positions will change; must be flexible for this shift!


Finish Line Setup & Expo Transition

Friday, March 31, 8pm-Midnight

Late night setup of our finish line area and race morning expo. Requires lifting and physical activity. Ideal for groups to volunteer together!


Gear Check

Saturday, April 1, 7-10:00am

Runners put their personal belongings in our Swag Bags at our Start. We return them at the Finish Line, sorted by bib number. Light lifting required. Able to walk and stand for a 4 hour shift.


Hydration Stations 

Saturday, April 1, 7:30am-12:30pm

(Primarily groups of 15+/-) Distribute drinks to runners at our seven stations along our 13.1 miles. Cheering runners is a MUST! Some lifting required. Able to walk and stand for a 4 hour shift. Loud, cheering voice is a plus!


Finish Line Customer Service & Gear Check

Saturday, April 1, 8am-1pm

Direct folks to various race-day locations, answer questions, and redistribute gear check belongings. Light lifting required. Able to walk and stand for a 4 hour shift.


Finisher Medal Awarding

Saturday, April 1, 8am-1pm

Present our 2017 Finisher Medals to our runners, hanging them around their necks at our Finish Line! No lifting required. Able to walk and stand for a 4 hour shift.


Kids Race

Thursday, March 30th 4-8pm

Friday March 31st 11am-3pm or 3pm-7pm

Distribute bibs and t-shirts to kids, accept new registrations, and assist in race setup/breakdown & management.


Finish Line/Secure Zone Management & Cleanup

Saturday, April 1, 8am-1pm

Assist runners through the secure zone, distributing food and drinks, encouraging runners, notifying EMS of any injuries. Clean up after runners finish. Some lifting required. Able to walk/stand and be physically active for duration of shift.


Awards/Director's Challenge

Saturday, April 1, 10am-1pm

Organize and prepare awards for ceremony. Distribute Director's Challenge awards and assist in final awards ceremony.


Keeneland Grounds Clean Up

Saturday, April 1, 1-4pm

Assist in packing up, organizing and cleaning up the Keeneland Barn & Entertainment Center and grounds surrounding. Lifting and physical labor involved. Ideal for groups to volunteer together!

Tours, Parties & Special Events

Friday, March 31, 7:30-11am, 11am-3pm and 2:30pm - 6pm

Assist guests as they arrive for tours, direct them to appropriate location, help load buses and sell tickets.

Hospitality Host

Saturday, April 1, 6-10am or 10am-1pm

Assist in setup and stocking of all hospitality tents. Also assisting guests with any needs, and providing a welcoming and fun environment to runners from around the world! Some lifting and physical activity required. Must be able to stand/walk 4 hours.

VIP Host

Saturday, April 1, 6 -10am or 10am - 1pm

Manage hospitality in VIP area, including checking tickets and ID, managing gear check and providing a fun experience for guests.

Tuesday, March 28th, 6-8pm

Keeneland's Entertainment Center
